Arrived on time, easy to track online. The packaging was outstanding, the best of anything I've ever ordered online - heavy duty cardboard box, protective linen bag, all buckles individually protected, main compartment filled with generous amounts of crumpled paper to help prevent the bag from being crushed during transport. While I haven't had the chance to use the bag as yet (as a laptop/tablet and accessories bag), given the quality of the leather and craftsmanship, I have no doubt that it will survive for many years, decades even. I'm very happy with my purchase. The fact that the price was exceptionally good was a bonus.

The Berret offers ample storage for the camera enthusiast in a deep and rich bag, but unfortunately suffers from some rather pedestrian design language and a relatively major impact on utility. The Berret like all of VLS' offerings look rustic and rugged. Its durable and beautiful in its truly vintage fashion. It offers an overwhelmingly deep basin to store your camera, lenses, and any little knick-knacks you need to bring along - which can also inhabit the various pockets that decorate the bags exterior. My main gripes are few, but significant. First: The absence of a dedicated carry handle. Unlike most, if not all, of VLS' offerings the Berret doesn't come equipped with express carry handles, and instead only comes with a permanently fixed shoulder sling. The issue is that due to the sling not being modular, this enforces reliance on the shoulder sling to be fully used. Two express carry handles could easily be affixed to the top two flats of the bag to allow quick and easy transport of the bag, this would be able to be positioned well enough to not interfere with the bags utility in being easily accessible for your camera. The second: The overall design is rather... simple, and could benefit from some embellishments/flourishes to really make it stand out. The Nixon is an extravagant bag for roughly the same cost, there is a lot of unused real-estate on this bag which gives off the impression that it should be cheaper, were it not for its enormity. The Nixon also offers a quick access handle on its peak which greatly improves its versatility in its design. Overall Verdict: Whilst I do love this bag for its sheer size and its innate raw materials, I do think it could benefit from a slight design overall to be a little more intrinsic, and it could vastly benefit from having two handles on its top to not force its wearer to rely on the shoulder sling. I'd rate this bag a 5/10 to truly reflect the review title, but VLS's craftsmanship is impeccable and it's a lovely bag besides. It earns a 7/10. I am interested in seeing where VLS can go with their future products, as genuine leather camera bags in Australia - at such quality - are extremely hard to come by.

A camera bag my wife actually loves!

I’ve been trying to buy my wife a new camera bag for years, as I often have to carry hers around and it’s terrible. All the other ones I’ve shown her she’s not been impressed with, but when I saw this I got the feeling she’d be into it. I took a risk and ordered it as a gift for Mother’s Day, and it arrived very quickly. Great news is that she loves it! It holds both her cameras, lenses and a flash, with plenty of pockets for batteries and other bits. It’s sturdy and looks great!
